Basement Waterproofing Cost Calculator for Chicago, IL
Planning a drain, a new pump or a crack repair in a Chicago, IL basement and wondering where the price might land? Four quick questions give you a rough range built from published national rates. Nothing personal is asked, and the number is meant to sit beside a contractor's written estimate rather than replace it.
The Method
Before you start: your floor-area answer becomes a rough length of foundation wall. The calculator keeps only the part you mark for a drain, multiplies those feet by the interior perimeter drain rate, then adds a sump pump and epoxy crack injection if you pick them. Those three cost rows, interior perimeter drain, sump pump installation and epoxy crack injection, are Fixr's 2026 national figures shown below.
| Cost row | Figure | Source (year) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical basement waterproofing project | about $3,000 to $10,000 (average about $5,000) | Fixr national (2026) |
| Interior perimeter drain, per linear foot | $40 to $120 | Fixr national (2026) |
| Sump pump installation | $600 to $2,500 | Fixr national (2026) |
| Epoxy crack injection, per crack | $250 to $1,000 | Fixr national (2026) |
| Waterproof paint or sealant, per sq ft | $1 to $8 | Fixr national (2026) |
The project and sealant rows give context only and stay out of the math. All five are national numbers, not Chicago prices. Three kinds of work are left out entirely: digging along the outside of the foundation, a backwater (check) valve and an overhead sewer conversion. The cost guide covers backflow work separately.
After the Result
The way to test this range is a written estimate for your own basement. Send the short request form, and one independent local contractor will reach out, come look at the walls and spell out the scope and price on paper. Until then, the cost guide explains what moves prices, and the wet basement checker helps narrow down where the water is getting in.
